Leadership York
Kindergarten Leadership for Diverse Schools
Leadership for Diverse Schools (LDS), a Leadership York program presented in collaboration with the York Jewish Community Center diversity programs, brings together York County educators to:
• Enhance their leadership skills
• Become more aware of their personal biases
• Better understand how valuing and embracing diversity is an integral part of a school’s success
• Have an opportunity to share ideas and seek different perspectives from their peers in other York County schools
• Be advocates for diversity within their school and district
Throughout the year, the class learns more about the major religions of York County, African-American and Latino cultures, and working with exceptional students, whether students with learning disabilities or identified as gifted. The class also gains knowledge of sexual orientation and socio-economic biases. Most importantly, participants meet with prior LDS graduates from their district to continue to develop and adapt their district’s plan for embracing diversity.
York County Community Against Racism
The JCC Diversity Department is proud to partner with YCCAR on various initiatives to address the issues of prejudice, bias, racism, and discrimination in York County. Whether teaming up for “learning events” such as a workshop at Shippensburg University or “celebration events” like a Diversity Art Display or Kids with Cameras program, the JCC’s Diversity Department and YCCAR recognize the importance of working together in promoting equality and justice for all York Countians. We are happy to support each other’s mission by serving on each other’s committees and volunteering at each other’s events.
York City Human Relations Commission
Unity MarchThe JCC Diversity Department is happy to partner with the York City Human Relations Commission for its annual Unity March through downtown York. This march, which takes place in July, is a reminder to all about the importance of uniting together, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, or other difference. The march helps a diverse group of students and adults find a common ground for conversations and understanding, and promote equality and non-violence in our community.
