Levels and Descriptions
Preschool Aquatics (age 4-5)
Preschool Aquatics Level 1: is designed to orient young preschool children to the aquatic environment and to help them gain basic aquatic skills in each category at the most rudimentary levels. It also helps children develop comfort in, on and around the water.
Preschool Aquatics Level 2: Most skills in this level are performed with assistance. This level marks the beginning of independent aquatic locomotion skills. Children continue to explore using simultaneous and alternating arms and leg actions on the front and back to gain more proficiency for future strokes.
Preschool Aquatics Level 3: Skills in this level are performed independently. Children learn to improve coordination of combined simultaneous arm and leg actions.
Learn To Swim Levels (age 6 and older)
Level 1 - Children learn elementary aquatic skills. At this level, participants start developing positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water.Level 2 - Participants learn to float without support. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Participants further develop simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back that lay the foundation for future strokes.
Level 3 - Participants learn to survival float, swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke. They are introduced to the scissors and dolphin kicks and build on the fundamentals of treading water. They will also learn rules for headfirst entries and begin to learn to enter the water headfirst from a seated position at poolside.
Level 4 - Participants improve their skills and increase their endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front crawl, elementary backstroke) for greater distances. Participants add the arms to the scissors kick for the sidestroke and start to learn the back crawl, breaststroke and butterfly and the basics of turning at a wall.
Level 5 - Participants refine their performance of all the strokes (front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke) and increase their distances. Flip turns on the front and back are also introduced.
Level 6 - Participants refine strokes for smoothness and improve efficiency and power, while going greater distances.
