SUPPORT OF ISRAEL
The following resolution was approved by the York Jewish Community Center's Board of Directors on May 2, 2002:

WHEREAS the State of Israel has just celebrated her 54th birthday as a free and democratic state that serves as a place of refuge and a homeland for all Jews; and

WHEREAS the State of Israel and her people are suffering greatly from unremitting terror; and

WHEREAS the York Jewish Community Center wishes to express its solidarity with and support of Israel;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:

The York Jewish Community Center stands in solidarity with the State of Israel for a safe and secure Israel and encourages every Jewish Community Center participant to support Israel and her people by visiting Israel, by supporting Israeli commercial endeavors, by advocating for a safe and secure Israel, and by supporting the Israel Emergency Campaign conducted by the United Jewish Community of York.

CULTURAL DISPLAY ITEMS SOUGHT
The JCC’s cultural committee is seeking Judaica-themed items or collections, of a non-fragile nature, (such as menorahs, mezuzahs or tzedakah boxes) to enhance our lobby displays of Jewish culture and religion. These items will be on temporary loan and will be returned after an appropriate length of time on display. To include your items, contact Cultural and Adult Program Director, Iris Katz to coordinate this effort. All individuals donating items will have their names included in the description of the display.

SPEAKERS' BUREAU VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Travel to classrooms and community groups with the video, "What I Remember," an interview-format documentary about the Holocaust experiences of two survivors. Individuals will need basic presentation skills, a rudimentary knowledge of the Holocaust and current events, and a willingness to interact with both students and adults. Volunteers will schedule their own time based on visit requests. For more information, contact Iris Katz at the JCC.

SCHOOL FOR THE EARLY YEARS FUNDRAISING

The York Jewish Community Center's School for the Early Years participates in the General Mills Box Tops for Education and Campbell Soup's Labels for Education program to raise money for preschool and child care programs. All of the money raised from these programs is used to purchase equipment and supplies for our children.

To support early childhood education, please drop off General Mills Box Tops and Campbell's Soup labels at the front desk or in the basket in the Early Childhood wing lobby.

GIANT REWARDS FOR THE CHILDREN
The JCC's early childhood education programs have again been offered an opportunity to participate in the GIANT A+ School Rewards Program.  JCC members are asked to complete a designation form available at the front desk.  Every time you shop at Giant and use your Giant Bonus Card through April 21, 2008, points are earned for the JCC (in addition to the points you earn for yourself).  After April, these points are turned into cash and Giant awards a check to the JCC to use for education purposes within the early childhood department.  It costs you nothing.  There's no extra fee.  As one parent put it, it's "free money" for our children's education at the JCC.  The process is very simple:

1.  Go to the Giant website at www.giantaplus.com

2.  On the site,  designate the York Jewish Community Center's Early Childhood Program as the school you want to support.

3.  Use your Giant Bonus Card on each shopping trip at a participating Giant store.

ON TARGET
Did you know you could earn money for the JCC's educational programs for children while using your Target or Target Visa card? Every time you use your Target Visa or Target Guest CardŽ at a Target store or target.com, Target will donate an amount equal to 1% of Target Visa and Target Guest Card purchases made at Target and target.com, and 1/2% of Target Visa purchases made elsewhere, to the JCC. To participate in this program, simply designate the Jewish Community Center on your Target Visa or Target Guest CardŽ application. You can get an application at any Target store or target.com. If you already have a Target Visa or a Target Guest Card you can sign up for the School Fundraising program by calling 1-800-316-6142 or by visiting target.com. Our school ID number is: 23194. Please support the JCC's child care program when you shop! Pass this on to friends and relatives so they can help, too!

WEATHER
During inclement weather, please tune to WSBA-AM 910 radio or WGAL-TV 8 for closing and delay information. Child care families should follow the JCC building announcement. Preschool families should follow the instructions for York Suburban School District.
